Founded in 1861, the University of Washington is one of the oldest state-supported institutions of higher education on the West Coast and is one of the preeminent research universities in the world.

Local Service and Partners

EEU Experimental Education Unit (EEU), University of Washington - Since 2002, Chi Sigma Alpha has partnered with EEU to assist the program. The EEU is a comprehensive early childhood center providing inclusive educational services for children with and without disabilities and offers educational programs and services to support children with disabilities and their families.





Walk for Rice Walk for Rice, Seattle, WA - Every year since 2003, Chi Sigma Alpha participates in supporting the local Asian community with a 2.5 mile walk and fun-run that benefits the Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS) Food Bank. According to the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, 2006, there is an estimated 275,000 Washington households live with hunger or the threat of hunger. As the third most-used food bank in King County, the ACRS Food Bank is the only provider in the state that regularly distributes foods that meet Asian Pacific American dietary needs. Over 90 percent of the proceeds from Walk for Rice go directly towards purchasing much needed staples of Asian Pacific diets, such as rice, ramen, tofu, fish and Asian Pacific produce. The ACRS Food Bank distributes over 4,800 bags of food, including 13,000 pounds of rice, each month. Please visit the website to register and walk for rice with us.


Relay for Life Relay for Life, Seattle, WA - Relay for Life is the signature event of the American Cancer Society and is a team event that promotes survivorship and increases cancer awareness in our community! The Seattle chapter for Relay for Life holds a walk at the Husky Stadium at the Universtiy of Washington. In 2008, the student body at the University of Washington raised $201,133.74, ranking the university #2 in the nation for dollars raised amongst colleges and universities. Chi Sigma Alpha is estatic to have participated alongside our fellow students to raise awareness and money for this important cause.


Campus Affilitions

United Greek Council United Greek Coucil (UGC), University of Washington - UGC was established on university campus in 2002 with the purpose to promote and encourage unity among the Greek letter associations at the University of Washington. UCG is comprised of Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity, Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Alpha Kappa Delta Phi Sorority.





Asian Student Commission (ASC), University of Washington - ASC comprises of several Asian interest organizations on campus. The commission includes the Chinese Student Association, Korean Student Association, Japanese Student Association, Indian Student Association, Filipino American Student Association, Vietnamese Student Association, Hong Kong Student Association, Taiwanese Student Association, Thai Student Association.

Our sisters are involved in various acts of individual service to the local community. We would like to spotlight their passions and detication to continue to make Seattle a better place to live. Out of the Darkness, Seattle, WA - Out of the Darkness Community Walks will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to fund research, education, survivor and awareness programs -- both to prevent suicide and to assist those affected by suicide. The walk starts at dusk and end at dawn, designed for participants to make friends, share stories and remember loved ones along the way. Collectively, the walk symbolizes that we can and must take steps to bring suicide and mood disorders out of the darkness.

Kinnaly Dance Music & Dance Troupe, Seattle WA - In 2001, three of our sisters sought to develop a place in which young Lao Americans can come together to learn about the arts, dance, and culture. The organization is in partnership with the Lao Heritage Foundation based of out D.C., which helps sponsors many of the group's events and travels. The dance group has performed in colleges and universities across the U.S. including UC Berkely, Arizona State and Northern Illinois University. The troup has also had the honor to perform for Northwest Folklife Festival and honorary former Ambassador of Thailand Derryl Johnson.

National Bone Marrow Program, Seattle, WA - In 2004, one of our sisters was matched as an national bone marrow donor for a 5-year old boy diagnosed with lukemia. The transplant took place at the Puget Sound Blood Center, where she underwent a safe surgery in May 2004. Since, she has continued her work with the Nation Bone Marrow Program with the Stanford Medical Blood Center in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are happy to report that both recepient and donor are healthy today.
