CHI SIGMA ALPHA
Creating a fresh approach to Asian American sorority life

Chi Sigma Alpha was founded in 2002 to address a need for Asian American women at the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle, WA, to experience sisterhood in a very real way. At the time, options were very limited for women with Asian American interest to promote character growth and self-expression through a connected sisterhood. We wanted to offer young women a place to develop honest relationships and embrace their personal and cultural diversity.
Without a legacy, Chi Sigma Alpha was founded on the idea of creation, where the organization can serve as a place to create honest and lasting relationships. Through supportive networks, the founding sisters diligently recruited new members, built strong social relations, supported the community and deepened their relationships with one another. Chi Sigma Alpha's ground up approach was the first of its kind in the Asian Greek community at UW, and we are happy to see new Asian interest sororities and fraternities that have since founded or chartered on the UW campus, providing for different needs in the community
Chi Sigma Alpha focuses on empowering young women through hands-on leadership training, high standards for academics, lasting community service projects and genuine relationships. The sisters embrace diversity of all ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds. The sisters also work to give voice and presence to the under-served Asian American community on campus and in their local community. Within Chi Sigma Alpha, our backgrounds include Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Filipino, Laotian, Thai, Indonesian, African American, Caucasian, and Hispanic.
All sisters of Chi Sigma Alpha reflect an entrepreneurial and authentic spirit of which the organization was founded. These characteristics continue to pave the way for the sorority and sisters to grow as a well-regarded, strong organization in their campus and community, and well beyond their university experience.
